Metal Lords

This film “Metal Lords” was 11/10 amazing!! More in the vein of “Detroit Rock City” than “The Dirt” – the cameos were brilliant, the musical touches only fans would know, hilarious throughout (loved the ascendency to the heavens during the guitar solo – and the line about a thick (as opposed to thin) pick being better suited for note articulation from one of the cameos !) – just brilliant !

Van Halen / Rolling Stones

Sunday, October 17th, 2021

Well hello, it’s been some time! Despite having a “backlog” of about 40 more acoustic songs I could record on YouTube, I’ve decided to instead focus all energies into finalising the album. I am going to re-record a killer song of mine for it, and I am writing one last new acoustic piece, quite dark – this will prolong things a bit but I’m excited as it is all starting to sound very good.

In other news, I finished the below book which was based on Van Halen’s early days and can recommend!

Sad to hear about the passing of the Rolling Stones’ drummer I have been listening to some of Mick Jagger’s original work (really great stuff) and and I thought I’d share my favourite Rolling Stone’s song. This song is very “raw” and “rock” – love it!! I actually first heard this via Guitar Techniques magazine who had tabbed it out years ago.

Red Red Rose

Now this is some song… Originally a poem by Scottish poet, Robert Burns… and turned to song by many over the years. This is my own adaption of the song. I like the romantic Scottish nature of this song. The lyrics are really something else… this man will love this woman until the rocks melt wi’ the sun, i.e. forever. Truly brilliant. Enjoy!

Dream Catch Me

Arguably Newton Faulkner’s most famous/recognisable song and for good reason. Great harmony, melody, lyrics & dynamics. This was a little tricky to play and sing but as ever, had a bash for fun.

Tornado of Souls (Solo)

Monday, July 5th, 2021

I was struck by this tune after not having heard it for some time. The solo is exceptional. I did plan on doing a “proper” video of this but I got in from home one night and this was a half-decent take (not perfect, by any means… but it captures the spirit) and so, lazily… I just uploaded it. Not bad for playing acoustic 99% of the time these days.

Tae the Weavers Gin Ye Go!

Monday, July 5th, 2021

This is a very upbeat Celtic tune which I transcribed (difficult as is very chordal and couldn’t find any music online).

It was great to get a break from fingerstyle – more strummers, required!

Played on my Avalon acoustic.

Never Going Back Again

Saturday, November 28th, 2020

Acoustic cover of a great song and real finger twister.

Lindsay Buckingham is one of my favourite musicians and this is one of my favourite songs of his. He is an outstanding guitarist and this is quite tricky to play and sing.

I added some harmonies points for the first time in any of my videos.

It might be some time until my next video – possibly early 2021.

Have a great Christmas!

I am Alive…

Thursday, November 26th, 2020

For anybody reading this, I’m still here!

Things have been incredibly busy. My day job is very demanding and life “gets in the way” – however I’m working on other (very interesting) cover tunes to make videos of (one is a REAL finger twister), and I’m still thrashing out parts of the album. It’s just taking time. No rush!

In the meantime, here’s a picture of me with a squirrel, to keep you happy.

Eddie Van Halen

Sunday, November 1st, 2020

There’s too much to be said so I’ll keep it simple. Eddie Van Halen was and will always be a massive inspiration to me. It’s sad to see your heroes go. RIP Eddie. If you haven’t heard it, Dave Lee Roth wrote a song with John 5 in memory of Eddie. I love it.
