So… my computer has been running slow.
I decided to use AVG PC TuneUp which worked a treat.
Over the last week I’ve been recording lots… it’s only until I opened an older project that I realised I had accidentally deleted a whole bunch of audio files when I did the PC clean-up…!! I managed to reciver most from my backup hard-drive however some seem to have been lost forever. THANKFULLY all drums have been saved as those have taken foooooreeeeeveeeeerrrrr to do. It just means I’m going to have to re-record a song I’d spent a month working on.

So the covers band I play in had our Christmas gig at the weekend. Ding dong merrily on high, people were dancing and the laser show we put on went down well. OK, so the laser show part is a white lie, but it sounds damn cool. Here is a picture from an audience member!
“I love this band!”
“These are not the droids you are looking for…”

I’ve just gone and put our two studio session cover songs (see earlier blog posts) up on YouTube, with accompanying photo reels. Enjoy!

So as I left work (unfortunately I’m not a full-time rock star) the other day I started my car and the song “I’ve Had The Time of My Life” from “Dirty Dancing” came on… a guilty pleasure, I love the song. So… up goes the volume! Singing with gusto! 😉
As I approached the exit road, I blasted the heater in my car but it caused the windows to steam up a little… so I had to roll down the car windows to look left and right… little I did I realise the gaggle of people to my right who I’m sure had a chuckle as they saw this grown man singing along to Dirty Dancing as he rolled his window down…
Dirty Dancing 1.
Confession: my favourite song is actually “Nothing’s Gonna Stop Us Now” by Starship!! I used to listen to it all the time on my little walkman, along with Culture Beat’s “Mr Vain,” Seal’s “Kiss from a Rose,” U2’s “With or Without You,” 2Unlimited’s “No Limits” … and the list goes on! I’d love for my band to do either “Safety Dance” by “Men Without Hats” or “Magic Dance” by David Bowie but I can’t see it happening..
In other news, I’ve been listening to a lot of guitar work by Andy Wood and Nick Johnston lately. I was reading that Andy comes from a bluegrass background – it’s great stuff. And Nick’s playing is just “wow” – the song “Silver-Tongued Devil” featuring Guthrie has some of the most amazing guitar lines. Music aside, the legato work at 6:50+ is really incredible sounding (if that was improvised, I will hereby slay myself). The YouTube video for this is very cool as you can tell who is playing what solo thanks to the animation. Absolutely great to see new talent producing new material – go buy their stuff! Thumbs up!

Some juicy pics for you!
Recently played Whistle Binkies in Edinburgh with the covers band and rocked a thousand faces!
Thanks to Whistle Binkies for having us along, and to those who came to support us. And thanks to John for these photos!

So here are two tracks (out of about 50 in our set-list) that we (Edinburgh covers band) recorded recently in the studio. Enjoy!

Why hello there…
In October 2015 an earthshaking moment occurred. The covers band I play in stepped into SoundSound studio in Edinburgh to record a two song demo which blew the needle off the Richter scale. The walls were shaking. The earth was quaking. World peace broke out for two days (eat your heart out Bill and Ted!) as aural euphoria was experienced by humankind.
The demo tracks will follow soon. In the meantime, enjoy the pics!
(Special mention to Neil McNaught, the Jedi Master in the studio!)

So in the last video, where I compared 57/08 and 59/09 pickups, I accidentally left the tone knob at 60% on the violet guitar with the 59/09s! This time… all knobs are on full for a proper comparison! I’ve also thrown the Suhr Pro S4 into the mix. The volume wasn’t touched at all and I should have increased it for the Suhr… Some slight video/audio syncing issues but my main goal is to get this album complete, not perfect YouTube videos! 🙂
About the Slash outfit – I tend to put it on at times when gigging with the covers band… just a bit of fun!

Watch it and weep:
You have to start from somewhere. I designed my logo. Then I got my intro video created. I created the video using my Canon G7X camera and recorded sound with my Zoom H2n. I then used Lightworks to edit the video and sync the sound up. It’s been a long process and I’m still scratching the surface, but I’m getting there… slowly…!
Although the amplifier could be a little louder this video highlights (hopefully) some of the differences between two sets of PRS pickups. It also shows off “The Royal Pair” nicely. And yes… that is the couch from the Coronation Street adverts! And yes… it is amazing!
–> Note I accidentally left the tone knob on the violet guitar (with the 59/09s) set to 60% throughout the video. I often do this to recreate the 57/08 sound from the 59/09s. Enjoy it for what it is and I’ll get a new video up soon…

Just thought I’d share these amazing photos I took earlier of the “royal pair” on my new Canon G7X camera. It was handheld so the images aren’t “tack sharp” but they’re miles better than my old ones. I’m throwing in the towel on this guitar malarkey and getting into photography… of guitars… !! 😉
